Photo Problem:
This is a common error. The foreground is lit up by the flash, but the open space in the background swallows up the light from the flash. Possible solutions are to not use a flash, or to get nearer to the subject you are trying to photograph, or get more lights on the subject. Digital cameras will usually adjust automatically for the available light and allow for better pictures without a flash in wide low light environments.
