Hello
everybody! I hope everyone enjoyed the Air Museum. I know I did. Seven
dads and 27 scouts all sleeping on the floor of a class room makes for a good
time. The museum was great and the staff did a great job of teaching and
answering all of the questions that inquiring minds need to know. We flew
simulators, built styrofoam airplanes and tried to launch an egg into space. We
had our own private tour of the main museum galleries with our own private tour
guide. I enjoyed the trip and was proud of how our scouts handled themselves.
Just a reminder that next Sunday, February 5th is Scout Sunday. The Boy
Scouts of America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting
Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday. This is an opportunity to recognize the
contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. Scouts and adult leaders
please wear your uniform to church. Talk to people about what you do in scouts
and answer their questions about our Troop and what we do. This Sunday is also
a great opportunity to volunteer to greet or pass out programs. What
makes scouting great is the sense of community and giving back that permeates
the organization. Scouting is first a youth program but I know that adult
volunteers receive fulfillment from shaping the lives of young men and are often
reminded of important life values. Like one dad said to me this weekend, "I
forgot how fun it is to act like a boy again." Who needs a better excuse than
that. One of the things that makes our Troop great is the level of involvement
of our scout dads. We couldn't camp without you. You are a great example to
your own son and provide an important role model to all of the scouts. The
scouts learn how to give back by watching us. Thank you for your support of a
great organization. See you around the campfire!
